Writing the Military Experience

September 16, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Got a story in you waiting to be told? Learn more about telling it with skill and power. Join us for a free one-hour panel discussion to introduce military veterans, spouses, and family members to the craft and healing potential of writing the military experience through memoir, fiction, and poetry. Panelists include Leila Levinson, Rod Pannek, Kathleen M. Rodgers, and Charles Kessler. All are welcome. Bring a brown bag lunch if you’d like and join us to learn more about the Veteran Writes project.

The Writer’s Garret has developed the Veteran Writes program to support military veterans and their families. Based on the work of James W. Pennebaker (Writing to Heal: A Guided Journal for Recovering from Trauma and Emotional Upheaval), our workshops offer strategies to help participants process and write about intense experiences in a way that promotes health and well-being. In addition to introducing writing’s healing potential, an ancillary aim of the program is to help participants develop the writing skills necessary for success in their lives.
