Learn the tools to help write your story. Veteran Writes exists for veterans from different experiences to meet and share their journeys through the power of language. Workshops take place in the Jackson Living Center Front Lounge of Juliette Fowler Communities.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Charles Kesler is a Vietnam combat veteran who served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade from September 1969 to September 1970. His military awards include the Parachute Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star, and others. He is a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and he is a volunteer Writing Aide with the Veterans’ Voices Writing Project VVWP).
Charles has a Bachelor of Theology Degree (B.Th.) and a Bachelor of Divinity Degree (B.Div.). He turned to writing in September 1995. He is the author of THE BOOK OF WILLIE and included in the textbook An Introduction to the Prose Poem (both Firewheel Editions). He appears in the anthologies Cattlemen & Cadillacs—Poets of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, HUNGER ENOUGH: Living Spiritually in a Consumer Society, Oh This Human Heart: A Collection of Love Poetry, The Venomed Kiss—Poems of Childhood Emotional & Psychological Abuse, Present View, Available Light, and Art’s Alive! His poems have been published in VETERANS’ VOICES, Illya’s Honey, Red River Review, Brevities, Sentence, The Texas Observer, Beetroot and many others. He is a 3 time Pushcart Prize nominee.
