with Lisa Huffaker
Saturday, August 11th | 3:30-8:30pm
Ages 21 and up | FREE (ONLINE SIGNUP REQUIRED)

Didn’t get a chance to nab your spot for the 4th on our first Rail Writers: Deep Ellum Blues? Not to worry! We’ll be taking the train out again for a repeat of this poetry adventure on Saturday, August 11th!

On this journey aboard the DART rails into Deep Ellum and beyond, singer, poet, and teaching artist extraordinaire Lisa Huffaker guides a group of writers through the rich, complex history of Dallas’s Deep Ellum neighborhood. Participants will venture on foot into Deep Ellum’s iconic cafes, bars, and cultural venues along Elm, Main, and Commerce; get an up-close look at its visual art and historical locations; learn about the decline and revival of its music scene; and explore its complicated relationship with Dallas’s evolving cultural conversation, all while writing poetry steeped in their experience and performing impromptu readings of their work in the heart of the neighborhood.

This event is free for everyone, but space is limited, so sign up now!
The group will meet at Mockingbird Station (5307 E Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75206) at 3:30pm, depart on the Blue Line, then enter Deep Ellum from Baylor University Medical Center Station (N Walton St, Dallas, TX 75226) at approximately 4:00pm. Please arrive at Mockingbird Station on time to ensure that you will be able to depart with your group.
