Nathan Brown, Poet Laureate of Oklahoma 2013-2014, presented by Pandora’s Box June 16

Nathan Brown, Poet, Ph.D.
Nathan Brown is an author, singer-songwriter, photographer, and award-winning poet who recently served as the Poet Laureate of Oklahoma for 2013 and 2014. Though he lives now in Wimberley, Texas with his wife, Ashley, he has always considered Oklahoma his home.
Nathan taught at the University of Oklahoma for many years, but now travels widely, offering readings, house concerts, creativity workshops, and musical performances in an effort to bring back the hint of a smile and the hope for a good story in poems. . . poems unafraid of making sense. . . poems that carry us to better places.
Nathan also worked as a professional songwriter and musician for decades in and around Oklahoma City, Nashville, and Austin. He has performed in venues such as the Bluebird in Nashville, the Cactus Cafe in Austin, the Mucky Duck in Houston, and the Blue Door in Oklahoma City. . . as well as overseas in Israel and Russia. His most recent album, Gypsy Moon, was recorded at Blue Rock Studios just outside of Austin.
He holds an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Creative and Professional Writing from the University of Oklahoma. And he currently teaches History of the Arts and Humanities courses for the Liberal Studies Department at the University of Oklahoma, as well as Introduction to Songwriting for Austin Community College, and he served as the Artist in Residence at the University of Central Oklahoma. He’s published thirteen books.
