IN THE PITY:
AN INTRODUCTION TO POETRY
For Veterans and Military Families
THIRD THURSDAY, JUNE-SEPTEMBER
6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
World War I veteran and poet Wilfred Owen said that his subject was “war and the pity of war,” for he found poetry “in the pity.” But what did he mean by this? Is poetry pitiful, or pity itself, poetry? Owen hints that poetry exists so that we can find meaning in the abstract spaces where things such as love and war, and pity, live. Join us for an ongoing introduction to poetry workshop that will explore the foundations of poetry as well as how you can use it to write about the abstractions of your own life. These workshops will be held once a month at no cost to its participants and no prior experience is needed!
