"The Accidental Author" -- Rita Dear

Sunday, December 9, 2012, 1 PM
Lucky Dog Books
10801 Garland Road, Dallas 75218
In this discussion, author Rita Dear will explore how she created the Eutopian Press publishing company and started a new, accidental, career as an author and publisher. Frustrated with a novel she'd just read, she started playing around with a story that, eight months later, evolved into enough material for her ten-book Eutopian Destiny series. Getting the books published was a different challenge. She attended agent events, researched several publishers’ contracts and had a bad experience with a print-on-demand company. Rita Dear will share these experiences and how they led her to publish her own books in order to control the integrity of her work.
RITA DEAR is a retired CPA and technical writer. The first book of her Eutopian Destiny Series, Preacher Man, received a Finalist Award in the 2010 North Texas Book Festival competition. Rita has since written the eleventh book in the Eutopian Destiny series and is working on the twelfth. She has also written Roxann, a Lady in a Chair, a fictional book that was a finalist in the 2011 North Texas Book Festival competition. A breast cancer diagnosis prompted her to write a non-fiction booklet titled: A Smart Ass Guide to Breast Cancer to help others facing a similar situation.
This event is FREE, but donations (large or small) are accepted and deeply appreciated.
