Our Literary programming rivals the finest in the country--often for FREE or half the price!

Word of Mouth Reading Series
Established in 1995, this series has brought to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex living writers of varying aesthetics and genres to share their work with local audiences. The series has featured a range of talent, from  local emerging wrtiers to those of international acclaim. Past readings have featured Lee-Young Lee, Chris Cleave, Carmen Tafolla, Tim Seibles, Brenda Hillman, Michael Blake, T.C. Boyle, Tina McElroy Ansa, Dagoberto Gilb, and others.

Stone Soup Peer Critique Workshops
Open to the public, with first visits free, and only $3 thereafter. Walk-ins welcome. First and third Tuesdays, mixed genre (fiction, poetry, cnf, drama); second Tuesdays, poetry; fourth Tuesdays, study and generative workshop based on Jack Myers' Portable Poetry Workshop. NOTE: THE PORTABLE POETRY STONE SOUP IS CURRENTLY ON HIATUS. WATCH FOR REVIVAL NOTICES.

Classes & Workshops for Adults
Formal workshops, generative writing courses; opportunities to study with authors of local, statewide and national reputation. In addition to an outstanding local faculty, past visiting instructors include Galway Kinnell, Sydney Lea, Jimmy Santiago Baca, Kaye Gibbons, Tim O'Brien, Yusef Komunyakaa, Naomi Shihab Nye, Gary Soto, and others.

Writers'  Community and Mentorship Project (CAMP)
An innovative mentoring program that provides college or MFA-level study and links writers with community service. Writers' CAMP gives writers the resources they need to hone their craft. And within the community service realm, professional writers donate their time to teach fledgling writers the craft of writing—and then these student-writers in turn teach others what they have learned to "pay" for their study.

Writers' Block
Discussions of general literary interest for readers and lovers of literature. Free and open to the public (but we love donations).

The Writers Studio
Inspired by Bravo’s "Inside the Actors Studio," the Writers Studio brings to Dallas the world’s most accomplished writers for an intimate look at their work. Taped for radio broadcast on KERA and NPR affiliates, upcoming broadcasts include Junot Díaz, Candace Bushnell, Robert Olen Butler, Richard Price, Eric Bogosian, and others. A virtual "Who's Who" of the literary world, Studio authors have included Alice Walker, Louise Erdrich, Joan Didion, Umberto Eco, Maxine Hong Kingston, Ernest Gaines, Julia Alvarez, and many others.
